Gibraltar

Located on the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory. With an area of 6.7 square kilometres, the territory’s landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar. The territory is home to around 34,000 people, and shares its northern border with Spain. Historically, Gibraltar has occupied a very dominant position, overlooking the entrance and exit to the Mediterranean Sea. This position remains important, with half of the world’s seaborne trade passing through the Strait of Gibraltar.

Why Study in Gibraltar?

Whilst Gibraltar’s contribution to higher education is still relatively young, with the first and only university founded in 2015, the aim of the University of Gibraltar is to build professional skills, as well as adding to Gibraltarian identity and history. There is also a focus on the future economic, social and sustainable development of Gibraltar.

Throughout history, the control of Gibraltar has been contested by different countries. This is partly due to its geographical location. Gibraltar is one of the most densely populated territories in the world, and has a demographic that reflects its migrant history. There are a variety of languages spoken by Gibraltarians, which adds to its diverse feeling.
