An Eritrea student visa is for those people who are coming to Eritrea to study. You will need to have authenticated education certificates and documents and a school that will take responsibility for your education in Eritrea.

Visa required for U.S. citizens:  Yes.

Visa required for non-U.S. citizens: All foreigners need to get a visa in order to enter Eritrea, EXCEPT those people from Kenya and Uganda.

Find your closest consulate

  • If you’re outside of the U.S. then click here.
  • If you’re inside the U.S.: The consulate you will have to use is located in Washington D.C.:

Gather documentation

Visa fee

  • Double check the fees at the consulate you found above.

Submit materials

Submit your required materials from Step 2 and the visa fee from Step 3 to the consulate you found in Step 1.

Receive your visa

Congratulations! The Embassy of Eritrea will give to you your brand new Eritrea visa.

Want to go outside Asmara?

  • You will need to go to the Tourist Information Centre on Liberation Avenue in Asmara to get a travel permit to travel anywhere outside of Asmara.

Want to extend your visa?

You can extend your visa twice (each time for an additional 30 days).  Make sure you bring a passport photo and a copy of your passport with visa page to the Eritrea Department of Immigration and Nationality.
